How to Remove Stickers from a Car

Peeling Sticker Off Windshield

Whether you’ve recently bought a used vehicle from a friend in Lakeville, or your kids went a little crazy with their sticker book, you may need to know how to remove stickers from a car. No matter the case, getting stickers off a car’s body or window is easier than you might think — you just need the right tools. Read on to learn more about how to get stickers off cars the right way with Burnsville Toyota

How to Get Stickers off a Car Body

First, gather the following items:

  • A bit of car washing soap
  • Hairdryer
  • Plastic card (library card, membership card, etc.)
  • Tree sap remover or Goo Gone Automotive
  • Clean, dry towels

Then, once you have everything you need, follow these steps:

  1. Use the car wash soap to clean the entire sticker and the area surrounding it.
  2. Turn the hairdryer to the “hot” setting. Hold it about two to three inches away from the sticker for a few seconds. Be sure to apply heat to the entire area, working from the inside out.
  3. Once the sticker is heated. Use the plastic card to gently push around the sticker’s edge. The adhesive should start to lift, and you should be able to slowly peel the rest off. You may need to repeat this process if the sticker comes off in small pieces rather than one whole piece.
  4. After you’ve removed the sticker, you may be wondering how to remove sticker residue from your car. It’s common for stickers to leave behind a sticky adhesive residue, even after you’ve removed them. This is easy to fix! Use a clean, dry cloth and some tree sap remover or Goo Gone Automotive and wipe the area until the residue is no more.

How to Get Stickers off a Car Window

You’ll use a different set of tools to remove stickers from your car window. The hairdryer isn’t required, and you’ll need a razor blade instead of a plastic card. Of course, be careful using the razor blade and never used a razor blade on the inside of tinted windows. When you’re ready, gather the following items:

  • Razor blade
  • Clean, dry towels
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Dish soap and hot water

After you have all of the above items, you’re ready to take the following steps:

  1. Peel the sticker up using the razor blade, then remove as much of it as you can by hand.
  2. Mix some dish soap and hot water, then use a clean towel to rub the sticker residue with the mixture. This may remove the sticker completely, but if not, you can take steps 3 and 4.
  3. Use the razor blade to carefully scrape at the residue until it lifts.
  4. Rubbing alcohol also does the trick. If the dish soap/water mixture doesn’t work, soak a paper towel in some rubbing alcohol and scrub the area. You can use the razor blade to clean up any remaining bits of adhesive. Then, soak a clean towel in water to clean the area when you’re done.
